About Us

Wheatgrass

The Company

As urban farmers located in Burke, VA, Future Acres Urban Farming LLC is a business focused on the health and wellness of all of our customers and pioneering the way forward for urban farmers. We currently grow and distribute all sorts of microgreens and also provide urban compost collection to the DMV area.

The Goods

Microgreens are the very nutritious seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs. Although small in size, microgreens contain up to 40-50x the vitamin and nutrient levels of their full grown vegetable and herb counterparts.

Our compost is created by collecting the food scraps from residential neighborhoods and high-rises and from our spent microgreen trays. The perfect soil amendment to bring barren soil back to life!

The Vision

Future Acres wants to serve the public with a fresh and locally-grown source of nutriment, which can help people become and stay healthy. We want to expand our operation into indoor gourmet mushroom farming, climate-controlled aquaponic vegetable vertical farming, and edible insect farming.

Once we are established, our compost will be donated to NOVA farmlands looking to become regenerative and move away from the toxic chemicals being used in today's agriculture.

The Owners

Business owner at farmers market

Dave

I grew up in the farmlands of Western New York. I have always been interested in the outdoors and nature, which probably led me down the path of my biology education.

I took an interest in farming and gardening when I took my first ecology class in college and I realized how synergistic and multifaceted nature truly is.

As an entrepreneur, I want to expand Future Acres into the farm of the future, introducing indoor hydroponic and aquaponic growing techniques to the DMV area for full vegetable production that can be accomplished anywhere.

Serving the public with tasty and nutritious food fills me with joy, and the innovative ideas I have for the future fills me with wonder of what's to come!

Tonya

Dave and I started growing microgreens and wheatgrass for health benefits just before Covid hit. During the lockdown, I learned the art of growing micgrogreens pretty quickly and I love doing it! It's such a peaceful practice and the health benefits that micogreens provide to our customers are astronomical. It feels good offering such a great product with many benefits to the public. At this time, Dave and I are actively seeking our next step for Future Acres and are excited for what's to come. Stay tuned!
